❄️ 4×4 Taxi for Rohtang Pass
After snowfall the road to Rohtang turns narrow and slippery. When that happens, the administration allows only 4×4 vehicles, and normal cars are turned back.
- A 4×4 helps you climb. It doesn’t help you brake on ice. Driver skill matters as much as the drivetrain.
- A permit doesn’t override a barrier. If the road is closed, no taxi can cross it, and we won’t promise otherwise.
- Timings may be fixed. In past 4×4-only periods the administration set a morning window for going up to Rohtang and a deadline to be back from Marhi in the afternoon. We confirm the rule for your day.
- If the pass shuts completely, we switch your day to Solang, the Atal Tunnel and Sissu so the trip isn’t wasted.
🗺️ Route and Stops
Manali → Gulaba (permit check) → Marhi → Rani Nala → Rohtang Pass → Khoksar → Atal Tunnel → Solang Valley → Manali
1. Pickup from Manali. Your driver collects you from your hotel, Mall Road or the bus stand. We usually start around 6–7 AM, because permits are time-bound and the road fills up quickly later.
2. Gulaba, the permit checkpoint. Every vehicle stops here for permit verification. Gulaba is also a snow stop in the early season, with a zipline and open views.
3. Marhi. The food and rest stop, about 35 km from Manali: chai, Maggi, restrooms and the last mobile network.
4. Rani Nala. A glacier-fed stream and waterfall, with snow walls late into the season.
5. Rohtang Pass. The highlight. Snow, views of the Pir Panjal and, in the open season, skiing, sledging and snow scooters. Plan 1 to 1.5 hours.
6. Khoksar. The first village in Lahaul, beside the Chandra River, with Tibetan-influenced buildings.
7. Atal Tunnel. The 9.2 km highway tunnel at over 10,000 ft that links Manali to Lahaul all year. It can still see restrictions in heavy snow.
8. Solang Valley. The last stop before returning: paragliding, ropeway, ATVs, horse rides and cafés.
9. Back to Manali by roughly 5–6 PM, depending on traffic and how long you stay at each stop.

Rohtang is a permit-controlled pass. Vehicles need an online permit with a limited daily quota. Permits can sell out on busy days, and the rules, fees and quotas change from time to time.
