💰 Manali to Sethan Taxi Fare 2026
The fare depends on the season. On a dry road, a normal car handles this short drive easily. Once snow arrives, a 4×4 becomes necessary, and the fare reflects the slower, harder climb.

🗺️ The Route: Manali to Sethan
Manali → Prini → Hamta road (about 35 hairpin bends) → Sethan village
1. Pickup. Our driver collects you from your hotel in Manali, Mall Road or the bus stand. The drive is short, so you don’t need the 4 AM starts that Rohtang or Baralacha demand.
2. Prini and the permit. Just past Prini the road turns uphill into Hamta Valley. This is where the vehicle permit and congestion charge is handled. You don’t need to queue or fill anything in, as our driver does it.
3. The Hamta road climb. The road climbs steadily through tight hairpins. In dry weather it is straightforward. After snow it turns narrow and slippery, which is exactly why we use 4x4s in winter.
4. Sethan. Snow meadows, the igloo site, and views across Hamta Valley towards the Pir Panjal. Pandu Ropa, a small site linked to the Pandavas, is nearby if you want a short walk.
🚙 Sedan or 4×4? The Honest Rule
- Dry, cleared road: a sedan or hatchback is fine.
- Fresh snow, packed snow or ice: only a 4×4 with an experienced driver should go up.
- We decide on the morning. Snow can fall overnight at Sethan while Manali stays clear. If conditions change, we tell you before you leave the hotel, and we switch your vehicle or your plan.
🏠 Igloo Stay + Taxi: Book Together
If you want to sleep in an igloo, not just visit for the day, we arrange the taxi and the igloo together.
- A typical igloo stay includes blankets, a bonfire or fire pit and meals, but inclusions differ by operator. We confirm exactly what is in yours when you book.
- Igloos depend on snow, so there is no fixed opening date each year. We won’t promise one.

📅 Best Time to Visit Sethan
- December: snow is possible, usually stronger later in the month, but not guaranteed.
- January to February: the best chance of settled snow and igloo stays. Also the busiest, so book early.
- March: a mix of snow and melting slush, with thinner crowds. Rohtang is often still closed, which makes Sethan a useful snow option.
- April to June: green meadows, short walks and bouldering. Sethan is also the base for the Hampta Pass trek.
- July to August: monsoon. The narrow road can turn risky in heavy rain, so we suggest postponing.
- September to November: clear skies, cold nights and few visitors.

- There is almost no mobile network in the village. Tell family your plan before you lose signal near Prini.
- Withdraw cash in Manali before you leave.
- Start back while there is good daylight. Don’t squeeze extra stops into the same day.
- At 2,700 m, a mild headache or tiredness is possible if you go up quickly.
- Don’t take a normal car up in snow. The hairpins turn icy.
